It’s that time of year again — you know, Girl Scout Cookie season! But you may be asking yourself, which Girl Scout Cookies are gluten free?
Not long ago, it would have been folly to ask are any Girl Scout cookies gluten and dairy free? But times are changing, and the Girl Scouts have now introduced two flavors of gluten free Girl Scout Cookies.
Here are some more details about these two gluten free Girl Scout cookie varieties (not available in every location):
“Toffee-tastic” and Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies. Toffee-tastic cookies contain milk and soy; Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies contain milk, eggs and oats. Each is made by a separate contracted manufacturer in different facilities. Both are certified gluten free, but Toffee-tastic is made in a shared environment with wheat, egg, peanuts and tree nuts; Caramel Chocolate Chip is made in a dedicated gluten free environment.
These cookies still may not suit your dietary restrictions, and may not be the flavors you’re craving. So whether you choose to order these cookies and try them for yourself or not, we gluten-free’ers can still save all kinds of guilt bucks and make many of the non-gluten free cookie flavors at home and plus make all flavors of gluten free girl scout cookies celiac safe.
The Gluten Free Cookie Swap is a great place to share your gluten free Girl Scout Cookie recipes, and there may be some already posted there which you may want to try.
Also check out my version of gluten free Tagalongs (pictured above) and so many more below. I am happy to say that you never have to go without these treats again!

I was so excited when I read last year about the GF Girl Scout cookies, and then immediately disappointed when I realized my favorites, Tag-a-longs and Shortbread wouldn’t be among them. Seeing everyone share the news just disappointed me again that my favorites were just beyond my reach. So THANK YOU for bringing the excitement back to cookie season! Now I’ve just got to find a way to explain to my husband how this won’t hurt the fitness goals……
Hahah, I totally understand the fitness/cookie challenge, Caitlin! And yes, also the disappointment that our favorite Girl Scout cookies are still not GF. I’m not convinced that the ones they’re offering are going to be that great, either (in other words, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything by making my own!) but it’s nice to see them finally making an effort. So happy you have the ability to have awesome Tag-a-Longs and Shortbread anytime you and your fitness goals allow it!

We bought the Michigan gf gs cookies. They only have chocolate chip and they are made with bean flour. Not my favorite, but it was fun to think we were eating gs cookies.
Good to know, Janine!
I think GS in Michigan has a gluten free cookie. I wish we could get them in Illinois.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have been a Girl Scout in one form or another for 32 years and I was just diagnosed with celiac 3 months ago… 3 months before cookie season! I just ordered 1800 boxes of Girl Scout cookies for my 3 troops and can’t eat any of them!
Dear Samoas, you and I will meet again…
LOL, Cynthia! Love your attitude! Enjoy the recipes – homemade will taste better than out of the box, anyway!
4 out of 5 of us at my house are GF-not by choice, but medical necessity and my youngest (daughter) is a girl scout. She is sad every year at cookie time because the troop has a night when they get to sample the cookies and she can’t. It is sad to see so many people will be missing out and that girl scouts isn’t doing something about this. This is not a diet fad, but a real issue for many people.
OMG! I’m droooling over this post!! It seemed everywhere I went Girl Scout cookies were tempting me . . . and now this post! Love your products & recipes! Thanks for sharing
Sure thing, Kate! Glad you can put my recipes to good use!
My 12 yr old was diagnosed with celiac at 4 yrs old and she doesn’t remember ever eating GS cookies. She does remember selling them every weekend for 3 months, and not being able to eat them. She hated it and it was required that she participate with the selling. Most people would ask her, “what is your favorite? I will buy your favorite kind.” I had to pull her out of GS because of the prejudice against my daughter’s diet. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posting this!!!!!!!!
Tonya, that is a heartbreaking story. It’s sad to think that an organization founded for the right reasons would wind up being so mired in form over substance that it couldn’t see beyond itself to accommodate one of its own. So glad, though, that you and your daughter will now be able to make your “favorites” safely at home!
Everyone says the new Savanna Smiles are great – anyone experimenting to make these GF? Like the lemony/powdered sugar flavors.
thank you so much for posting these recipes! i have missed girl scout cookies. now i get to bake them

I have an especially deep love for Girl Scout Cookies, having been pictured on the Dos-i-Dos box for ten years, and have missed them greatly in the two years I have been Gluten Free. Thank you!

…It was very difficult almost two years ago whenI was diagnosed that I couldn’t have GS Cookies…especially with both my daughters selling the cookies. I will definitely be trying the recipes mentioned above…thank YOU! Spring wishes coming your way…
My daughter and I also made our recipes for Girl Scout recipes before we found this. She has celiac and allergies to dairy and soy too. Very glad to see there are many gluten free recipes.
