It’s summer. It’s hot. It’s really hot! What do you do to cool off when it’s just so darned hot? These easy 5 minute gluten free popsicles are the answer!
Vegan, nutritious, and practically made for you already, they bring down the temperature deliciously!
There are so many ways to make these yummy treats, using your favorite milk or non-dairy substitute or even a protein drink like OWYN (Only What You Need)*. Simply pour it into popsicle molds and go! (Be sure to leave just a little room at the top for expansion during freezing – pictured above.)
They only take a couple hours to freeze, but it’s handy to make them the night before so you can grab one anytime you like (breakfast popsicle, anyone?!).
When they’re made with healthy ingredients, breakfast popsicles don’t sound so crazy after all!
I used OWYN** for these because I love the clean label on their protein drinks and there’s no need to add ANYTHING else! If there’s a flavor of OWYN you or your family loves, they’ll love it in a popsicle!
I used their Cookies & Cream flavor, but they also have Strawberry-Banana, Smooth Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, Tumeric Golden Mylk and even grown up Cold Brew Coffee flavors — all OWYN products are also all certified gluten free, vegan, non-GMO and even low-FODMAP, plus they’re loaded with healthy things you (or your kids) would never taste, like Omega 3s, plant-based protein, fiber and even a superfood greens blend! I promise no one will know these popsicles are healthy … it can be our little secret! (Use code gfJules20 at checkout on the OWYN site for 20% off.)
I highly recommend OWYN as a drink on its own or in recipes like this one. Everything from Gluten Free Protein Brownies to Coffee Cake Pound Cake and Homemade Vegan Ice Cream. In fact, just search “OWYN” in the search bar at the top of every page and you’ll find lots of other ways I’ve incorporated this tasty dose of nutrition in my baking!
I did decide to crush up some gluten free mock Oreo cookies to put in my Cookies & Cream popsicles, but it’s not necessary. You could also add crushed homemade gluten free graham crackers or another gluten free candy or cookie — it’s fun to get creative with additions like these, but it also makes them less likely to be viewed as an appropriate breakfast food, so you decide whether to add or not to.
Berries are another favorite add-in for our family (back to breakfast), or gluten free granola … what will you find to add in?
Feel free to use whatever milk or non-dairy milk you have on hand or whatever works for your dietary restrictions. Use mix-ins or not — make these different every time and make them your own! But whatever you do, just make them!
I hope you keep this recipe handy for the next time the days are long and hot and you deserve an easy, chilly treat!
