This delicious sour cream frosting is ideal for those who are prefer a slightly less sweet topper for their favorite cake recipe. It pairs perfectly with my gluten free Apple Cider Cake, if you’re in need of inspiration!
Sour Cream Frosting Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 4 Tbs. butter or non-dairy substitute (e.g. Earth Balance® Buttery Sticks), at room temperature
- 1/2 cup sour cream (dairy or non-dairy)
- 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
Instructions
Cream ingredients together and drizzle or spread over cooled cake. Refrigerate to set.
Note: dairy-free sour creams tend to be less thick than those with dairy. If your frosting is too thin, whisk in more confectioner's sugar, 1/4 cup at at time; if it is too thick, add more sour cream by the tablespoon until the optimum consistency is created.
What brand of non-dairy sour cream do you use? I have never run across non-dairy sour cream in Canada.
