Nutr Automatic Nut Milk Maker

Any dairy-free dad knows that finding a creamy, great tasting milk free “mylk” can be a tough task, but shelf-stable and store bought vegan milks can contain unhealthy preservatives and additives, so making your own is an intriguing proposition. The problem is that with homemade nut milk makers of the past, it can be a long, tedious and messy process.

Which is why I watched with interested as the Nutr was demonstrated at the Inspired Home Show in Chicago this year. It seemed easy enough, and the nut milks they created were definitely delicious, but I wanted to try for myself. I can assure you that having used this Nutr machine in my own home, it’s as good as they make it look. Vegan milks (nuts, flaxseed, soy, oats, rice, hemp), creamers, lattes, smoothies, shakes are all easily made within a matter of only a few minutes and just with the push of a button. A room temperature setting makes gluten free oat milk and other chilled milks; the warm (140 degrees) setting makes warm beverages and creamers; hot setting (212 degrees) boils water or soy & rice milks for safe consumption.

Anyone who’s ever been to Italy or dreamed of going to Italy or likes Italian food or has an ounce of Italian heritage or loves lemons or is interested in trying regional specialties either already knows and loves limoncello or will, with their first sip.

Any baker worth their salt needs a batter bowl. My favorites are from Mason Cash, and this measuring jug isn’t girlie in any way, just functional and attractive enough to be left on anyone’s counter, man or woman. Seems like a small thing, but an un-contaminated toaster would make any gluten-free person’s day (and hey, it’s better than a tie!). This wide-slot toaster from Proctor-Silex is great for all gluten-free breads, including bagels!

Fans of our podcast, You Had Me At Eat, already know this handy, inexpensive gadget called Negg is on my Father’s Day list. It makes peeling hard boiled eggs a thing of the past, as it practically does it for you.

Simply add eggs to boiling water and boil for 13-14 minutes (my own father’s trusted method), then drain and fill the pot with ice water. Once the eggs are cool enough, put one in this handy contraption with more water and shake, shake, shake.  The water gets between the broken shell and the hard boiled egg, allowing you to peel back the shell without any of the usual struggle or complaint.
